“That Cool Kid from Spain” is what they called him when he arrived in the US. Not knowing English and trying to fit in at a Virginia Beach high school, Miguel Bautista quickly found his niche. He joined in on lunchroom rap battles, captivated by the rhythms of kids beating on lunch tables and freestyling. What set him apart was his rhythmic flow and rap in his native Spanish. This marked the beginning of Miguel Bautista’s career in entertainment. As he learned English and became bilingual, Miguel began performing at school rallies in front of large crowds. Discovering his comfort on the mic and his special gift for energizing audiences, he saw the immense hype he could generate. Known as “El Nene,” he not only became a rap artist with his song “Fuego” playing on Ventura County’s number one radio station but also began hosting events. Miguel’s career as an emcee took off with an invitation to host at the NBA All-Star Jam Session. From there, he went on to host major events such as the NBA All-Star Jam Session, Final Four, Super Bowl, MLS All-Star, and international events like FIBA in Spain and Colombia and the Pan-American Games in Peru and Chile. Hyping up large crowds with his energetic personality in both English and Spanish, “That Cool Kid from Spain” found his true calling.
